Derby Futsal Club have announced the latest additions to the squad ahead of the inaugural National Futsal Series season, including two young England internationals.
First to be announced was Ollie Whaley, who signs from local rivals University of Nottingham. He is currently a sports scholar at Leeds Beckett.
Also joining is Liam Hunt, who played last season for Genesis. Hunt’s signing will not only bolster the NFS squad, but also the University of Derby side who act as a feeder club. He is joining the university to study Business this September.
Both Whaley and Hunt are U19 internationals, and played their part in the Euro qualifying campaign last season.
The third signing was announced today, as 18 year old goalkeeper Archie Robinson makes the switch from Tranmere, after moving to Leicester to study.
Head of Futsal Matt Hardy was naturally chuffed to welcome the talented youngsters to the team: “I’m absolutely delighted to bring Liam, Ollie and Archie to Derby and to finally confirm their signings. In a quite turbulent summer for Futsal in England, there will be a lot of movers and shakers across the country and we didn’t want to show our hand to soon with any of them, but equally, were really excited by the statement that the signing of all three sends out.
“They’re three young, enthusiastic lads and we’re delighted to be getting hold of players with their potential, that will play a big role in the future of the sport in this country. In Liam and Ollie’s case, we’re also bringing in an unquestionable international pedigree and all three add to an already exciting squad for 2019/20.
“We’d like to thank their families, their sponsors and their previous clubs for their help and assistance in making the three moves happen”.
