Match Reaction: Hardy delighted with four-star Derby win

Derby Futsal Club maintained their 100% record in this season's NFS with victory against Loughborough

Efficient. Effective. In just two words last night, our social media team perfectly summed up the hard working and experienced performance that led to Derby’s 4-1 victory over Loughborough Development yesterday afternoon.

Two goals from new captain, Dylan Harris Newton and first goals of the season for Matt Richardson and John King, were enough for Derby to convincingly double their points tally for the campaign and maintain their 100% start to the new FA National Futsal Series.

It closed a difficult couple of weeks for DFC, which following the opening day win in Durham, have seen a host of issues, marring what should have been a very confident couple of weeks preparation – most notably the loss of Michael Thorpe, who is taking some time away from futsal.

Derby, however, rallied and against their youthful opponents, they produced a fine display of experience, game management and control to bring three points away from Leicestershire.

“I’m delighted with the win and the performance to go with it, especially after the difficult couple of weeks we’ve had” Head of Futsal, Matt Hardy told derbyfutsal.com, post-match.

“As a group we felt we had control throughout that today and I was impressed with how we asserted ourselves and forced them to play in areas where we were happy and ultimately where we wanted them to be.”

“Before the game, me and Sam asked for character and commitment from the boys and we got it, 100% of it from those available today and I’m really pleased to get that second three points into what will be a really busy mid season calendar.”

“We showed our experience and maturity to come through a really difficult test and everyone is delighted with the quality of the win today, as much as anything else, which I think was incredibly important to us as a group.”

“The boys have earnt some time off next weekend, before a really busy run up to Christmas. We’ve put ourselves in a really strong position and it’s important we maintain the attitude, work ethic and focus that will allow us to build on this, starting in two weeks against Birmingham Tigers.”

Derby return to court on Sunday November 3rd, as they face Birmingham Tigers at Cheshire Futsal Club’s Northgate Arena.
