Derby Futsal are delighted to announce that Chris Sewell has joined the club as the Men’s first-team coach.
The arrival of Sewell strengthens up Sam Huntingdon’s coaching team with Huntingdon the Player/Head Coach and Gareth Keeling being the assistant head coach.
Sewell adds a vast amount of experience to the team, already having a UEFA B coaching badge. He has coached in America and has a wide range of knowledge in English football, in the Women’s Super League with Durham Women. Also, in futsal, he has coached Durham Palatinates, Durham University and Newcastle Football Club.
Managing director, Matt Hardy is pleased with the addition of Sewell, “I’m delighted to be able to bring Chris to Derby and add a coach of his skill and experience to the backroom team. He is someone Sam and I have got to know well since he came to futsal around 5 or 6 years ago, as soon as we realised he was available we were keen to pick him up.”
Hardy hopes it will have an impact on everyone at the club, “He has coached at a top-level wherever he has been, I think it will add a really positive challenge to some of the things we would do as the norm, which can only help everyone in the group to develop.”
Sewell cannot wait for the next step in his career, “I am really excited and looking forward to the challenge. I have always admired and respected the way that the club has evolved, and I can’t wait to be a part of it going forward.”
There was no hesitation for Sewell, “After chatting with Matt about potentially coming on board and helping out, it was a no brainer, to be honest. The infrastructure of the club, the quality of players and the opportunity to work with good people in the NFS Tier one, what’s not attractive about that.”
Sewell will be looking for a win on his coaching debut for the Rams this Sunday as Derby Futsal face Bolton in the NFS Summer Showdown at St Georges Park. You can watch the game live on the National Futsal Series YouTube Channel.
