Derby Futsal Club’s Men will try and earn their first victory in the FA National Futsal Series Summer Showdown this weekend as they face ProFutsal London at the University of Wolverhampton Walsall Campus on Sunday.
In the first round of fixtures, Derby were unlucky in defeat, following a brave performance, littered with missed opportunities, as they fell 3-1 to Bolton, which included an iconic strike from England international, Stuart Cook.
ProFutsal come into the match in a rich vein of form, following an impressive performance and a 13-0 thumping of Worcester at St Georges Park last week.
The manner and style of their victory cemented the Souther as the favourites for the group and Derby’s Matt Richardson says the squad know that Sunday will be a challenging match.
“We are expecting a ruthless, well organised side that are going to be an extremely tough opponent.”
“We know we need to improve on the speed of our play, as well as our concentration defensively. We’ll need to do both well, but if we can we know we have players with the ability to take the game to Pro.”
With defeat in the first game, Derby will be looking to register their first points and to show the rest of the teams what they are capable of. However, the Scottish international plays down the need to panic if Derby can’t get a result this weekend.
“We are here to compete and make a mark, as we want to prove that we are capable of competing with the teams in NFS One. Ultimately though, we know that we are the outsiders in this group and the main aim for us is to learn from each of these games and take that experience forwards.”
“We know these games are a massive learning curve for our squad and the experience will make us a better side.”
With a big scalp in their sights, Derby will be working hard to secure their first win of the tournament which you can watch, live at 12.40pm on the FA Natonal Futsal Series YouTube channel this Sunday.
