Derby Futsal will be looking to get back on top of the National Futsal Series tier two table with a victory against the University of Nottingham Futsal.
Derby sits in second place only a single point behind York Futsal who have played an extra game.
The Rams are on an impressive four-game winning streak and have just come off a comprehensive dismantling of Trent Valley by winning 22-1. Whilst Nottingham have just come off an impressive 6-6 draw to table-topping hopefuls Loughborough Development.
Nottingham has two players that Derby will have to look out for, Sam McGrath and Jacob Owen have both scored four goals for their side. The Rams have their dangermen. Captain Pawel Tomczak is the fourth highest goal scorer in the competition with eight goals in just five games. Matt Richardson is only a goal behind him, The Rams certainly have the firepower. Also have the defensive stability to withstand the pressure, having the best defensive record in the division.
Joe Illston has been heavily involved in Derby’s success this season. Scoring six goals in only three appearances. He knows how important it is to keep this good form going, “we need to keep up this form to give us the best chance of promotion, everything we are doing in training plays well into our playstyle and it is all about putting that into games to ensure we keep winning.”
Illston understands the challenges that face him against Nottingham, “they have got a lot of experienced players who love to keep the ball and dictate games.” Illston goes on to say how his side can get the victory, “Our best chance of victory is by limiting their time on the ball and imposing ourselves on the game.”
With a lot on the line for both sides, this game is crucial for the outcome of the season and to see whether the promotion is on the horizon for The Rams. The kick-off is at 2:30 pm at the University of Derby and that is where everyone will find out.
