Derby Futsal will be looking to bounce back with a victory against Liverpool after a disappointing 6-3 defeat to Sunderland in the National Futsal series.
The defeat meant that The Rams stay in the second position, a single point behind York but both sides have played the same amount of games.
This Sunday sees Derby face Liverpool who sits seventh in the table with seven points and their most recent game ended in a 6-2 victory over Trent Valley. The last time these two teams faced each other it ended in a 9-0 victory for The Rams.
Liverpool has some talented players on their team, Yota Yamamoto is the one to watch after scoring eight goals in eight games.
An important player in Derby’s squad, John Atkinson, played against Sunderland and shares his thoughts on the defeat, “before the game we knew we would be playing against a very tough side but obviously, we were there to win. However, we were not clinical in front of goal and the goals we conceded were based on individual errors that we need to iron out.”
“Overall, I thought we played well as a team in the key moments. The passing and movements were good even though I thought we could have done better.”
Looking ahead to the challenge against Liverpool, Atkinson explains what he expects to see from them and how his Derby side can win. “We are going to use our experience from the Sunderland game to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We have to have the desire to win.”
“Liverpool will be a tough side to beat. I played them a few years ago and I can see they have developed well over the years. We know that they will be coming to take three points off of us so it won’t be an easy game.”
This game is crucial for The Rams to get back on track after defeat last time out. With the University of Derby being the host venue for Loughborough against York the Derby players will know what they have to do to stay competitive in this fight for promotion.
