History

Established in 2011, Derby Futsal Club are the county’s first National League club, with both the men’s and women’s teams competing in the inaugural FA National Futsal Series in 2019/20.

We have a proud tradition of working with “home grown” talent and are committed to providing the best possible opportunities to the next generations of players, coaches, and futsal people in our county and surrounding community.

We’re very lucky to call the University of Derby Sports Centre our home since 2018, giving us access to some of the best facilities in the country, and a futsal court which has been used by the FA to house their National Refereeing programme and the 2018/19 National Futsal League Women’s Play Off Semi Finals.

Derby Futsal Club in 2012

History

After the introduction of regular, competitive futsal to Derby by Willows Sports Centre in 2010/11, Derby Futsal Club was formed in January of 2011, competing in the qualifying competitions for the 2011 FA Futsal Cup as the club’s first taste of national competition.

Derby, then playing as Team Derby, joined the National Futsal League in 2011/12, becoming FS Derby in the summer of 2012. The club won the Division Two North league title in 2014/15, which remains the club’s only current national honours.

After being denied promotion, the club finished 2nd in Division Two North in both 2015/16 and 2016/17, reaching the quarter finals of the FA Futsal Cup in both seasons, before taking a year away from the National Futsal League in 2017/18 to concentrate on building local community links and establishing partnerships with the Derby Futsal League and the University of Derby.

The club returned to the National Futsal League in 2018/19, with an all new female team entering alongside the Men’s side and became Derby Futsal Club in order to work more closely with its club partners, most specifically the Derby Futsal League and the University, whilst also aligning the club with the county’s futsal programme and vision.

The club’s strategy, created in 2018, highlights its desire to develop and inspire futsal players, coaches and people throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

In the summer of 2019, the Men’s team was accepted into Tier 2 of the inaugural FA National Futsal Series (NFS). The Women’s team were also accepted into the South division of the Women’s NFS. The Men had a very strong season whilst the Women struggled results wise but continued to improve, until the season was halted and eventually expunged, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Following the return to play in May 2021, both teams competed in Tier 1 competition for the 2021 NFS Summer Showdown. For 2021/22, the Men’s team will once again compete in the FA NFS Tier 2 North with eyes fixed firmly on promotion.
